Reported Speech

Direct Speech is when one person talks directly to another or to a group. Reported speech is when this person tells others what he/she said, or someone else reports what he/she said.

Examples:
-My work is done. I am going home.
-What did she say?
-She said that her work was done and she was going home.
Notice how the present tense changes to the past.
-Last week I went swimming.
-What did you say?
-I said that I had gone swimming the previous week.
When the sentence is in the past, we change it to the Past Perfect Tense when we report it. Also we change "last week" to "previous week"
