Reported or Indirect  Questions

  Yes/ No Questions  Wh questions
When a yes/no question is changed to a sentence whether of if is used to intoduce the clause.
Example:
Yes/No question                                         Reported Questions
Will she go?                                           I don't know if/whether she will go.
Do you exercise?                                 I don't remember if/whether I exercise.
Does she exercise?                               I don't know if/whether she exercises.
Did she exercise?                                 I don't know if/whether she exercised.
 
 
In a statement you cannot use question order. When making a reported questions the subject precedes the verb.
Notice: The auxiliary verbs do-does-did (used as auxiliaries) are deleted in a reported wh-question.

Where does she go?          I don't know where she goes.
What do you do?              I can't remember what I do.
 
With the question word who the word order is the same in the question and in the reported question because WHO is the subject in both.

Who    ate ?                    I don't know who   ate.
Who    came?                   I don´t know who came.
Who     is happy?               I don't know who  is     happy.
If there is a subject in the question, this subject is placed in front of the verb be.

Who is that man?               I don´t know who that man    is.
Who are they ?             I don´t know who           they      are.

Yes/No Questions

1. The interviewer asked me, "Do you work?"
2. The interviewer asked me, "Are you ready?"
3. The interviewer inquired, "Did you kill him?"
4.  The police asked, "Do you work for the mafia?
5. The lady asked,  "Does she drink tea?"
 
Wh Questions
1. The athlete wondered " How did he win?"
2. The teacher asked, "When did you do your homework?" 
3. I wonder "How did he do it?" 
4. My mother asked me "Where is your sweater?
5. He asked her  "Why are you crying?"
