 Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was a Scottish medical doctor and  ; he is famous for his stories about the  Sherlock Holmes – Conan Doyle is one of the “fathers” of crime fiction!

When he  young, he studied  a Jesuit school; after that, he studied  at the University of Edinburgh. While studying, Conan Doyle started writing short . In 1882 he began medical practice, and while he was waiting  patients, Conan Doyle  his first Sherlock Holmes novel “A Study in Scarlet” (1887).

Conan Doyle said that the character of Sherlock Holmes was inspired by Doctor Joseph Bell (Conan Doyle worked for  as an apprentice). Also Sir Henry Littlejohn, a Police Surgeon, was source of inspiration: like Sherlock Holmes, Sir Littlejohn loved investigation  detection of crime.

Sherlock Holmes is a special detective: he is very intelligent, but also eccentric: he  a pipe and he often  a funny hat. Holmes is famous for his logic, his ability to disguise, and his use of science to solve difficult cases.

Holmes often works  his good  and consultant Doctor Watson and he lives at the famous address 221B Baker Street  London. The original Sherlock Holmes narrative consists of fifty-six short stories and four novels.
