                                                 “Autumn Fires”

                                                           by Robert
Louis Stevenson

In the other gardens
And all up the vale
,                              Vale is a synonym for valley.

From the autumn bonfires                               bonfires:  large fire built outdoors for
                                                           signaling or for a celebration
See the smoke trail!

Pleasant summer over
And all the summer flowers,
The red fire blazes,
The gray smoke towers.

Sing a song of seasons!                       (Alliteration: the "s" is repeated.)
Something bright in all!
Flowers in the summer,                      (Contrasting summer and fall)
Fires in the fall!
