Haiku Haiku poems are generally written to describe nature. The most widely recognized form consists of a three-line stanza that has a total of seventeen syllables, written in the following pattern:                                                                 Relaxing                                                                      By                                                                 CMH   Lines in the Haiku Words broken into syllables Number of syllables   Gentle rain on me     Gent / le   rain  on  me   5 syllables   Warm sunshine fills my small room     Warm sun / shine fills my small room   7 syllables   The doors blow open     The doors blow o/pen   5 syllables                                                                                                                                                                                                Relaxing                                                       Gentle rain on me                                  Warm sunshine fills my small room                                                The doors blow open                                         Notice how the words and phrases used in a haiku poem do not rhyme.           Exercise: Complete the following haiku so that it has 5, 7, 5 syllables in each of the three lines.
