The Blacksmith in Bjedla, a local fairytale

One Thursday night, late in the autumn, the blacksmith had been out on the fjord fishing. He had caught a lot of fish, and with a heavy bucket in each hand he started the long walk from the fjord and up to Bjelda, where he lived. On his way back home, he had to cross a big marsh where a�huge troll was often seen. Also this night the troll was lying in the middle of the marsh letting the moon rays tickle his huge body. The troll was almost as long as the marsh was wide, and with eyes as big as griddles. The blacksmith was not scared at all. He just looked at the troll, ran and stabbed Flusi, the magic sword, right into the troll�s heart. When the troll realized what had happened and what kind of steel he had got into his body, he wanted to catch the blacksmith. No matter how much he tried, he could not move. As long as Flusy was stuck inside his body, the big troll could not do anything.

�

�Take out what�s inside me!� the troll roared.

�I will leave it there until Monday�, the blacksmith replied.

�

He knew better than removing the sword! So the troll was stuck where he was until sunrise. When the first sunbeams hit the troll, a huge bang was heard and the giant creature died.

At the same moment a big rock at the other side of the fjord opened. Out of a big hole lots and lots of small trolls came running and jumping. They were shouting and crying:

�Look what has happened! Granddad is dead! Granddad is dead!�

They took the troll�s body and carried it through a big gate in the rock. After that day nobody has heard or seen the big troll on the march between Bjedla and the fjord.
