The British made the colonists pay taxes

because they were in debt from the French

and Indian War.

On December 18, 1773, the Sons of

Liberty dressed up like Native Americans,

went on board the ships, and�threw the

tea into the harbour.

The Boston Tea Party was one of many

events that led to the Revolutionary War.

The tax on tea�made the colonists angry�

because tea was their favorite drink.

The colonists later called this the Boston

Tea Party.

When ships brought a shipment of tea�

into the Boston harbour, the colonists
refused to pay the taxes or to unload the
ships.

Samuel Adams led a group of protestors

in Boston. This group, the Sons of
Liberty, supported independence from
the British.
