HAVE GONE vs HAVE BEEN

  1. Observe the illustrations and read the explanations before you do the exercises. 

                                     

HAVE GONE : We use 'have gone' when someone went to a place and is still there. The person hasn't come back yet.

HAVE BEEN : We use 'have been' when someone went to a place and came back. The person is no longer away.


EXERCISE 1 : Complete the sentences with "been" or "gone".

1. Keith knows London very well. He has there many times.

2. "I'm looking for Kate, have you seen her ? " " Well, you won't find her in her office. She has just out."

3. I'm so happy ! My parents have out so I can go to bed whenever I want. 

4. Bob is a real globetrotter ! He has to Japan, Brazil, Australia and many other places.

5. " Do you know what Time Square is like ? " " Actually, no! I've never there myself but I'd love to !

EXERCISE 2 : Complete the sentences with "have been" or "have gone". Mind the subjects ! You may have to write "has been " or "has gone"
