The Present Continuous ( Affirmative Form )

Form:

Examples:

  1. I am reading a book now.
  2. Nancy is reading a book now.
  3. Sam and Linda are reading some books now.
  4. We are reading some books now.

As you notice in the examples above, the present continuous = ( am / is / are ) + verb + ing

Use:

  • We use the present continuous to talk about something happening now ( at this moment)
  • We also use the present continuous to talk about the future.

Spelling rules:

  • Base verb + ing� Example: clean + ing� = cleaning
  • Omit the ( e) when the verb ends in a consonant + ( e) Example: write + ing = writing
  • One syllable verbs ending in� consonant + vowel + consonant, we double the last consonant Example: run + ing= running
